I was pondering the Idea of Guy Fawkes and how everyone seems to consider him an anarchist or something like that. How he was going to end the oppressive rule of Parliament and free the people or some stupid misconception like that. And I also began to consider how popular culture has made him some sort of metaphoric banner to rally behind masks of when they don't like the government or they are doing something stupid. Guy, or Guido (But that name doesn't sound cool enough so everyone ignores it) Fawkes was Catholic, and didn't like a Protestant King on the throne. This still sounds all fine and dandy, but after he blew up the King and Parliament he wasn't going to make everyone happy communists or whatever stupid ideas people like Anonymous have, He was going to install a Catholic king, and Parliament, who would be either more or equally oppressive as the previous Monarchy. As it states here "He was to light the fuse and then escape across the Thames. Simultaneously, a revolt in the Midlands would help to ensure the capture of Princess Elizabeth. Acts of regicide were frowned upon, and Fawkes would therefore head to the continent, where he would explain to the Catholic powers his holy duty to kill the King and his retinue." Huzzah for Guy Fawkes, a true champion of the rights of the people. So carry on wearing Guy Fawkes masks and all that, unless you don't support Totalitarianism, which is, I assume, what you were trying to not support in the first place. Oh and Guy Fawkes wasn't even British, he was a psycho-catholic Flemish Mercenary.
Glad to destroy your stupid Misconceptions,
Gregory Rose, the History Major
